Bruce Wayne, back on his feet after a miraculous recovery from a broken spine, is trying his best to recoup his aura of invincibility and preserve the legacy of the Batman. He's also trying to restore the goodwill he lost by allowing Jean-Paul Valley to become his proxy during his rehabilitation process.
As such, Bruce approaches longtime colleague and former ward Dick Grayson to step into his shoes. At first, Dick seems like a natural choice to become the next Batman. After all, he grew up in the Batcave and shadowed Batman on all his early adventures.
