There's No Business
There's No Business is a story about a stand-up comedian who is losing his touch with comedy. Like with most other works by Charles Bukowski, you feel sorry for the main character in the plot, though he has has no one else to blame for his agony and misfortune but himself. When Charles Bukowski and Robert Crumb team up, the result is a masterpiece. There are four illustrations in the book.
The lucid narration about the protagonist in the book is both funny and sad at the same time. in typical Bukowski fashion, the character seems to come to life. It paints a picture of the city of Los Angeles that is long forgotten. Though the plot is dark and would be depressing, the writing style makes it seem light hearted. The excellent dialogue and the insults used in the book keep the book engaging.
There's No Business is available in paperback. It was published by Ecco in the year 2002.
